Expanding the Possibilities of Being

Discover within yourself new ways of feeling, living, and responding.

What are you hoping to find?

  • If you are a trans, nonbinary, or genderqueer person (or a questioning or curious one!), but you’re having trouble finding the joy in yourself, you are in the right place. Transness can be the most powerful, personal, and joyful experience of your life, even in these hard times. All you need to know is that a different experience of your life is always possible.

  • The world we live in makes it very difficult for anyone, but especially for trans and gender-nonconforming people, to peel back the layers of expectation and social rules and find out who we really are. But doing that work is rewarding and can change the way you relate to yourself and the world. I’d love to do it with you!

  • I didn’t write “transition support” here because not every trans or genderqueer person wants to transition. And if they do, everyone’s transition looks different! What we all seek is transformation: the ability to become someone new, and in the process, to find ourselves. This is the wonderful paradox of yoga: we become something new by remembering our true selves.

  • If a loved one has come out to you recently, or if you have come out (or want to), the dynamics of your family and relationships are likely to shift. Let’s experiment together with how that can look and feel to best support all of those involved—whatever their feelings and previous experiences.

  • Whether you are a trans support group, a therapy practice, or a nonprofit team, healing is often more powerful when we do it together. Find new ways of being—new ways of doing the work you do together, whatever it is—through the practices of yoga, play, and collective self-study.

Let Me Help

You already are your most authentic self. But in the chaos of the world, you forget. This practice can help you rediscover the playful, thriving being within.

Being trans is a form of divine play—it should not be a source of shame, but a source of joy and freedom.

The anxiety and fear that go with being trans in this society are real. But they don’t have to define your experience.

We are so much more than the sum of our body parts. Transness can transform our lives and our world. There are always new possibilities for living, feeling, and being.

Joy as a Practice

Transness isn’t just a category or a state of being. It’s a practice. It changes and evolves as we learn, and it becomes an increasing source of joy and freedom as we incorporate it into our lives.

The elements of the practice that I work with are self-study, play, and nonattachment.

All of these ideas have Sanskrit words that go with them because they are all elements of yoga practice, as well: svadhyaya (the art of self-study), lila (divine play), and vairagya (or nonattachment). These are often misunderstood concepts, so I’ve defined them here if you want more info.

Joy and freedom are not on/off switches. They are practices—and that’s a good thing because it means we can access them intentionally, any time we need to.

Meet Mark (They/Them)

I discovered yoga more than 25 years ago, and it has been a guiding light through trauma, recovery, divorce, and a midlife gender and sexuality awakening. My life has not been easy or simple, but my practice has been with me through it all. I’ve worked in nonprofits and academia. I’ve been a researcher and a writer. But nothing has brought me the fulfillment, the meaning, or the joy I’ve found in this ancient, but always relevant, practice.

I am also a certified coach who spent more than ten years working as a teacher and professor.

My practice has taught me how to see, know, and love myself, how to speak from my own authentic heart, and how to live in the world as I am with courage and joy. Let me help you find your way there!
